What is Hemp For Dogs?
Hemp for dogs is a vague term which can be used to describe a many different products for dogs including, CBD oil for dogs, hemp seed oil products for dogs and hemp extract products for dogs. Products can contain both hemp seed oil and hemp extract. Hemp extract usually means CBD oil which can be full spectrum, broad spectrum or an isolate.
-
What is the Difference between Hemp Seed Oil and Hemp Extract?
Hemp seed oil is derived from the hemp seed and contains no cannabinoids. Hemp seed oil contains the perfect balance of omegas (3,6,9) for your dog. Hemp extract is derived from the hemp flowers and contains cannabinoids such as CBD and CBG.

Hemp versus Cannabis
Both hemp and marijuana come from the cannabis sativa plant. Many people associate the word βcannabisβ with marijuana, but hemp is actually cannabis as well. The only true difference between hemp and marijuana is the level of THC. By law hemp has a THC level of .3 or less.
-
Can my pet get "high" from taking HempMy PetTM products?
No, HempMy Petβ’ products are not psychoactive in any way, do not contain Marijuana nor are they Medicinal Marijuana products. Our products are made from Hemp, which has to have less than .3% THC by law, to be considered Hemp, and not Marijuana. Our βHemp Extractβ is derived from Hemp, which may have trace amounts of THC to begin with before extraction, but then after it is extracted and added into our products, it is even further diluted down by the carrier oils. THC does not show up on any of our third-party lab tests for all of our products. So, your Pet canβt get high off of these products, however, you may notice your pet feeling more calm and at ease, and older pets may be moving around more easily after use, this is most likely due to the other cannabinoids and terpenoids present in the products.
-
What is the suggested serving amount for my Pet?
The suggested serving is on the label of each product. We have included a recommended serving size based on Pet weight. These are general guidelines only, we always recommend that you consult your vet if your Pet has a pre-existing condition and/or if you are planning on giving your Pet a higher amount than recommended on each product label. If your Pet is not responding as desired to the suggested serving amount, more can be administered as long as your pet is not showing any signs of adverse effects (i.e. lethargy, diarrhea, incoordination). Please refer to product label and product page for details on the specific product you are interested in. Read More Onset Time for CBD for Pets
-
How do I give HempMy Petβ’ products to my Pet?
All of our products can be administered orally, whether you chose to add to your Petβs food, treats, or simply allow them to lick it out of your hand. Itβs really up to your Pet, as they all seem to have differing preferences. The only thing we advise against is allowing your pet to lick the product right out of the jar or directly off the dropper, as the introduction of saliva into the product could potentially lead to contamination and cause degradation of the product (just the same as any human products).
-
What happens if my Pet consumes more than the suggested serving amount?
This depends on the size/weight, species, metabolism of your Pet and their individual response to cannabis-based products. If more than the suggested use is consumed, there is a possibility that your Pet may be lethargic and / or in-coordinated for some time, until it metabolizes. There are no known long term effects. Please contact your veterinarian if you have concerns about your Pet having adverse reaction of any kind (i.e. lethargy, diarrhea, incoordination).
-

What is CBG?
CBG stands for cannabigerol. It is the precursor, or stem cell cannabinoid. to over 113 other cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, including CBD, CBC, and THC. CBG (cannabigerol) is present in virtually all cannabis plants, which include marijuana and hemp, in the beginning stages of the plants life and convert to other cannabinoids as the plant matures throughout the vegetative and flowering stages of the cannabis plants lifecycle.
-
Has CBG Been Studied?
Only a little, and certainly more studies are needed, but a recent study published in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) βCannabigerol (CBG) is another major phytocannabinoid having a pharmacological profile relatively similar to THC and CBD in relation to its CB-independent activities. CBG is non-psychotropic and does not bind or activate CB1 or CB2. However, CBG is antioxidant as well as anti-inflammatory, as it inhibits lipopolysaccharide-induced (LPS) release of proinflammatory cytokines and prostaglandin E2 in primary microglial cells, activates and attenuates murine colitis induced by intracolonic administration of dinitrobenzene sulfonic acid.β
-
How is CBG different from CBD?
CBD comes from CBG as CBG is the precursor cannabinoid to just about all other cannabinoids. CBG is usually found in lower percentages than CBD. To date there has been little research done on the benefits of CBG, it is actually more closely related to CBD than it is different.
-
How is CBD different from THC?
THC actually comes from CBG, but CBD does not get you or your dog high. CBG binds to the CB2 while THC binds to the CB1 receptor, again meaning it does not get you or your pet βhighβ. There has been little research done to compare the medicinal differences of CBG and THC.
-
Is CBG safe for horses?
We always recommend consulting your veterinarian but to date no contrary indications have been found for CBG and horses.
-
Is CBG safe for dogs?
We always recommend consulting your veterinarian but to date no contrary indications have been found for CBG and dogs.
-
Is CBG safe for cats?
We always recommend consulting your veterinarian but to date no contrary indications have been found for CBG and cats.
-
Which is better, CBD or CBG?
There has not been enough research done to determine which cannabinoid is better. Each have shown promising benefits and every pet and their needs are unique. Many are choosing to use a combination of CBD oil and CBG oil.
